Personalize your Okendo loyalty program by automating email communications through Klaviyo β from welcome emails and points notifications to tier changes and nudge campaigns.
In this article, you will learn about:
Before you begin
π‘ First, connect Okendo to Klaviyo. See Getting started with Klaviyo and Okendo.
(If you already have an active Klaviyo connection from another Okendo product such as Reviews or Referrals you can use that same connection for loyalty β no need to reconnect)
Loyalty data in Klaviyo
When you connect Okendo to Klaviyo, Okendo syncs loyalty events and profile properties to Klaviyo as your customers earn points, redeem rewards, and move through tiers. You can use this data to trigger flows, segment audiences, and personalize email content.
Okendo sends events for key loyalty actions β such as points being awarded, rewards being redeemed, and tier changes β along with a set of profile properties that reflect each customer's current loyalty status, point balance, and tier.
For the full list of loyalty profile properties and event variables, see Okendo data sent to Klaviyo.
Disable email communications in Okendo Loyalty
When using marketing automation platforms for loyalty communications, merchants will want to disable the same email types in Okendo Loyalty.
Please refer to this article on how to complete this task.
Email communications you can build with loyalty data
With Okendo loyalty data in Klaviyo, you can automate the following types of emails:
Welcome emails β greet customers when they join your loyalty program
Points awarded emails β notify customers when they earn points from a purchase or other action
Redeemed reward emails β confirm when a customer successfully redeems a reward
Tier upgrade emails β celebrate when a customer reaches a new tier
Tier downgrade emails β notify customers when their tier changes down, with encouragement to re-qualify
Nudge emails: close to next reward β prompt customers when they're nearly at a points threshold for a reward
Nudge emails: enough points to claim a reward β remind customers they have unclaimed rewards available
Nudge emails: close to next tier β encourage customers to spend a little more to reach the next tier
Points adjustment emails β inform customers of manual or system adjustments to their point balance
Common loyalty flow examples
Build a points awarded flow
Use this flow to notify customers each time they earn points.
In Klaviyo, go to Flows and create a new flow.
Set the trigger to the Okendo Loyalty Points Awarded metric.
Add an email action. In the email body, use event variables to show:
How many points the customer earned (Points Earned)
What action triggered the award (Action)
A description of the earning event (Description)
Activate the flow.
π‘ You can also add a time delay before the email sends, giving any order processing time to complete.
Build a tier change flow
Use this flow to send tailored emails when a customer's tier changes β upgrading or downgrading.
π‘ This flow is included as a template in the Klaviyo integration. Simply search "tier" when creating a new flow.
To build it from scratch:
In Klaviyo, go to Flows and create a new flow.
Set the trigger to the Okendo Loyalty Tier Changed metric.
Add a conditional split:
If Is Tier Upgrade = true β send an upgrade congratulations email
If Is Tier Upgrade = false β send a downgrade notification email
In each email branch, use the event variables Old Tier, New Tier, and Earning Period End to personalize the message.
Activate the flow.
Build a tier nudge flow
Use this flow to encourage customers to spend a little more to reach the next tier before their earning window closes.
In Klaviyo, go to Flows and create a new flow.
Set the trigger to the Okendo Loyalty Tier Nudge metric.
Add an email action. Use the event variables to personalize the message:
Current Tier β the customer's current tier
Next Tier β the tier they're working toward
Spend to Upgrade Tier β how much more they need to spend to qualify
Tier Upgrade Window End Date β when the earning window closes
Activate the flow.
π‘ Create a sense of urgency by highlighting the Tier Upgrade Window End Date in your subject line or email header.
