Introduction
Attributes enable you to capture deeper insights into who your customers are and what they love (and don't love) about your products.
Getting Started
Attributes are configurable per Shopify collection from within the 'Attributes' tab of the Okendo Reviews Shopify app.
When creating attributes you'll first choose which Shopify collection the new attributes will apply to.
Note: If you don't see your collection in the dropdown, hit the green 'Don't see your collections?' link to force a sync between your collections in Shopify and in Okendo.
Types of Attributes
There are four types of attributes:
Range: Customers provide a rating on a scale of 1-5.
Centred Range: Customers provide a rating on a scale of 1-5.
Multi-Select: Customers can select multiple options.
Single Select: Customers must select a single option.
Range and Centred Range attributes are used exclusively to capture product insights. Multi-Select and Single Select attributes are used to capture both product insights and customer insights.
Let's explore each of the four attribute types in more detail.
To learn about attribute options for specific industries please see the bottom of this article for more information.
Range Attributes
Range-based attributes are primarily intended for capturing insights into the performance of key product dimensions such as 'Quality', 'Design' or 'Ease of Use'.
To create a new range attribute click the '+ Range attribute' button.
This will open the configuration modal.
You will be prompted to choose a title of the attribute and provide labels for the 1-5 scale. Once entered, you will see a preview of how the attribute rating will appear during the review capture process.
We suggest keeping the wording of both the attribute title and the scale labels as brief as possible in order to optimize the customer experience.
Centred-Range Attributes
A variation of the Range attribute, the Centred-Range attribute is particularly useful for capturing insights about product dimensions where there is an existing standard and you are interested in measuring deviation from this standard.
Centred-Range attributes are commonly used by apparel retailers to capture insights into product sizing and whether or not an item is 'true to size'.
Creating a Centred-Range attribute follows the same process outlined above for the Range attribute though includes an additional requirement to provide a middle label.
Multi-Select Attributes
Multi-select attributes are intended for when you'd like customers to select multiple options from a broader, pre-configured group of options.
For products, Multi-select attributes work particularly well for capturing insights into value dimensions and use cases. Common examples include 'Product Standouts' and 'Best Uses'.
For customers, Multi-select attributes work particularly well for capturing insights into customer characteristics and individual experiences. Common examples include 'Skin Concerns' and 'My Results'.
To create a new Multi-select attribute click the '+ Multi-select attribute' button.
This will open the configuration modal.
You'll then need to provide a title for your Multi-select attribute and create some options for customers to choose from. Use a comma to separate options.
To increase insight accuracy customers can select a maximum of 5 options.
Single-select Attributes
Single-select attributes are great for when you'd like to capture a single, specific insight, most commonly, a customer insight.
For example, you can use Single-select attributes to identify the following types of useful customer intelligence; age, gender, waist size, height, bust, skin tone and hair colour.
To create a new Single-select attribute click the '+ Single-select attribute' button.
This will open the configuration modal.
You'll then need to provide a title for your Single-select attribute and create some options for customers to choose from. Use a comma to separate options.
Single-select attributes have additional controls for determining how the attribute options are displayed to the customer and whether or not this attribute is a required aspect of the review submission or if it is optional.
When the 'dropdown select' box is ticked, the attribute options will appear within a dropdown menu. Using the dropdown select is recommend for an attribute which has a large number of potential options such as 'height' or 'bust'.

Special Note
Attributes can be hidden and can be used for data collection only. Simply go to Reviews > Attributes > click on the attribute Collection. From there, if you click on an attribute, a toggle can be turned on so that the attribute will not be shown on-site. See the screenshot below:
