Collecting reviews for bundled products

Control how review requests are sent for bundled products — choose whether to collect feedback for the bundle, its individual items, or both.

When a customer buys a product bundle, Okendo gives you control over which products appear in the review request email. You can ask customers to review the bundle as a whole, the individual items inside it, or both. Configuring this correctly ensures your review requests feel relevant and your product pages build the social proof that matters most.

⚠️ This feature supports the Shopify Bundles app using fixed bundles only. Bundles created using Shopify Functions (dynamic bundles) are not supported.

Understand your bundled product settings

Okendo offers three options for how review requests handle bundled products:

Setting

What it does

Include bundled products

Sends a review request for both the bundle and each individual item that makes up the bundle.

Exclude bundle products

Sends a review request for individual items only. The bundle product itself is not included.

Replace individual products

Sends a review request for the bundle only. Individual items inside the bundle are removed from the request.

💡 If you sell bundles as a curated, hero product experience, Replace individual products is usually the best starting point. It keeps the review request focused and directs social proof to the bundle product page.


Configure your bundled product review collection

  1. Select one of the three options: Include bundled products, Exclude bundle products, or Replace individual products.

  2. Click Save.

⚠️ This is a global setting. It applies to all sequences, you cannot configure different options per sequence.


Understand how the setting affects your review request emails

The bundled product setting applies to any orders that enter your send queue after you save the setting. Orders already in the queue will be sent using the setting that was active when they were queued.

If you change the setting, only new orders processed after the change will reflect the updated configuration.

Example: If you switch from Replace individual products to Include bundled products, any bundle orders already waiting in your send queue will still be sent as bundle-only requests. New bundle purchases after the change will include both the bundle and its individual items in the request.


Control product order in your review request

When you use Include bundled products, the review request email will list the bundle alongside its individual items. You can control the order in which these products appear using the sorting options in your sequence.

To configure the display order of products in your review request email:

  1. Go to Mail > Sequences and open your active sequence.

  2. Click into the Send block.

  3. Under Product sorting, choose your preferred sort order: by product price, product rating, or review count — either ascending or descending.

Sort by options:

  • None – Default: first product in the order

  • Price – Highest or lowest priced item

  • Rating – Based on average product rating

  • Review count – Based on the number of existing reviews

Sort order:

  • Ascending = lowest value

  • Descending = highest value

💡 If you want the bundle product to appear at the top of the email, sort by product price descending (assuming the bundle is priced higher than its individual items).


FAQs

Q. Will changing my setting affect emails already in the send queue?
A. No. Any orders already in the queue will use the setting that was active when they entered. The updated setting only applies to new orders that are processed after you save the change.

Q. What happens if my bundle includes products that are hidden from my Online Store?
A. If individual bundle items are hidden from your Online Store channel, review requests for those items may fail or be suppressed. Using Replace individual products avoids this issue, since the request is sent for the bundle product only.

Q. Does this work with all bundle apps?
A. No. This feature is compatible with Shopify Fixed Bundles only. Bundles built using Shopify Functions (dynamic bundles) are not currently supported.

Q: Does the bundle product inherit the attributes of its component products?

No. Attributes applied to individual component products are not inherited by the bundle. If you are collecting attributes with your reviews, you will need to configure those attributes you wish to collect on the bundled product.
