Centralizing communication and campaign management in marketing automation platforms, such as Attentive, empowers you to seamlessly incorporate Okendo data into your email and SMS marketing campaigns, enabling you to create more personalized customer communication.

To trigger when a message should be sent to a customer, Attentive requires you to set up an automation, also called a Journey. These Journeys are set up and managed directly via the Attentive UI.

By building a journey in Attentive, you can send review requests, loyalty messages, recommendations from quizzes or referrals using email or messages from the Attentive platform. You can also use Okendo data from surveys to build segments in Attentive.

💡 You can deep dive into the concept of Journeys on the Attentive support site.

In this article, you'll learn about:

❗️Before you can begin building a Journey in Attentive, you must authorize Okendo to access Attentive. For more information, refer to Integrating with Attentive.

Creating a Journey in Attentive

Attentive allows for two ways to create a Journey using Okendo triggers.

  1. A prebuilt Journey

  2. Custom Journey starting from scratch

Prebuilt Journeys

Select a prebuilt Journey for quick setup, including default messaging containing the relevant event variables for the respective trigger event. Current prebuilt Journeys are;

  • Okendo - Review Created (Text only or Multi-channel Text/Email)

  • Okendo - Review Request (Text only or Multi-channel Text/Email)

Custom Journeys

Build a custom Journey using an Okendo trigger event and create the optimum flow, including messaging personalization for the respective Okendo product. Custom Okendo trigger events are;

  • Okendo - Review Created

  • Okendo - Review Request

  • Okendo - Survey Submitted

  • Okendo Loyalty Points Adjusted

  • Okendo Loyalty Points Redeemed

  • Okendo Reviews - Loyalty Points Rewarded

  • Submitted Okendo Quiz

  • Enrolled in Okendo Loyalty

  • Okendo Loyalty Tier Changed

  • Okendo Referral Invitation

  • Okendo Review Request Cancelled

  • Received Okendo Referral Coupon

  • Sent Okendo Referral

Building a Journey

💡 While the following example is for building a custom Journey for a review request, the steps are broadly the same for Loyalty, Referrals and Quizzes.

Once you are in your Attentive account, navigate to Journeys via the main menu. Click the Create Journey button in the upper-right corner of the page to start building a new Journey.

You can now select a prebuilt Journey or you can Start from scratch, then click the Okendo - Review Request tile and click Continue.

Selecting Start from scratch allows you to select from a number of Journey triggers, select the Okendo trigger you wish to use and open the Journey map.

Add Branches and Messages

In the Journey map, click the plus icon (+) and select Branch.

Choose the condition What channel(s) are active for the subscriber and select Text Only. Two branches will appear: Channel Type of Text Only and Channel Type of Email Only or Both Text + Email.

For Channel Type of Text Only, click the plus icon (+), select Send text message, enter the required details, compose your SMS, and click Save.

For Channel Type of Email Only or Both Text + Email, click the plus icon (+), select Send email, enter the required details, compose your email, and click Save.

Click Turn on to activate your journey.

Personalize messages with event variables

Event variables allow you to personalize your messages based on events that Okendo sends to Attentive.

Adding event variables to email messages

In the Send email box, use the drag-and-drop editor to compose your email. Select a template and edit the content.

Customise your email by adding text, images, buttons and more from the editor's Content tab.

Utilize trigger event variables by clicking into a text field and then the Insert variable button. Choose variables such as the user's First Name, Last Name, and the Product Review URL category. Click Insert.

To display a list of products from the order, add a new row from the Rows tab and drag and drop a Dynamic List from the Content tab.

Click Add list and choose Products. Select the number of items to display (up to 5) and configure the layout.

For images, use the variable {{item['Image Url']}} and {{item['Review Url']}} for clickable images.

For text, use variables such as {{item['Review Url']}}, {{item['Name']}}, and {{item['Variant Name']}}.

Once you have finished configuring your email content, click Save and return to the journey.

Adding event variables to text messages

In the Send text message box, compose your message and click the Personalization button to add an event variable. Click Save.

Once you have finished configuring your message content, click Save and return to the journey.

Accessing customer profile attributes in a message

In addition to event variables, you can also incorporate customer profile attributes to personalize your messaging further.

Select the variable category Subscriber to access attributes to add to your messages.
