Tier entry rewards let you automatically reward members the moment they reach a new tier in your loyalty program. Instead of managing rewards through Klaviyo or Shopify Flow, you can configure points, store credit, or coupon rewards directly in Okendo Loyalty, and have them issued the moment a member qualifies.
In this article, you will learn about;
How tier entry rewards work
When you enable tiers in your loyalty program, you can add a tier entry reward to any tier. As soon as a member reaches that tier (whether by earning enough points or, for paid programs, by purchasing a membership), Okendo automatically issues the reward you've configured.
You can choose from:
Points
Store credit
A coupon (a percentage off, a fixed dollar amount off, a free product, or free shipping)
Each reward can have its own title, description, and restrictions, so the messaging matches how you talk about that tier.
💡 If a member qualifies for more than one tier at once (for example, jumping from Bronze straight to Gold), they'll receive the tier entry reward for every tier they pass through, not just the one they land on.
Set up a tier entry reward
Go to Loyalty > Loyalty Rules > Earn Rewards.
Select Add earn rule, then choose Tier entry.
Choose the tier this reward applies to.
Select a reward type (points, store credit, or coupon).
Configure the value of the reward.
If you're offering a coupon, set any restrictions (like minimum spend, product eligibility, or expiry).
Optionally, add a custom title and description for how the reward appears to members.
Save your earn rule.
Adding or deleting a tier once the tier entry rule is live
While you cannot delete a tier once it is live, you can add or remove the tier entry reward rule to a tier, even once the tier entry rule has been set live. If you make changes to the tier entry rule once activated, the new changes will apply only to new members going forward. There is no retroactivity.
To do this:
Go to Loyalty > Loyalty Rules > Earn Rewards.
Select the Tier Entry rule.
Select the checkboxes next to the tiers you want to add or remove.
Select Apply, then Save to confirm your choices.
The updates should then be reflected under the individual tiers.
💡 Tier entry rewards can be added to tiers in both free (points) and paid (memberships) programs.
Understand reward behavior for skipped and re-entered tiers
Skipped tiers: If a member skips a tier (for example, moving straight from Bronze to Gold), they'll automatically receive the tier entry reward for every tier in between, not just the tier they land on.
Membership cancellations: If a member on a paid (memberships) program cancels and is moved back to a free tier, they'll receive the tier entry reward for the free tier they land on.
Lifetime restrictions: If a member re-qualifies for the same tier multiple times, you can choose how many times they can receive the tier entry reward. This can be set within the restrictions tab of the tier entry rule. It also applies to every reward type available.
Re-entered tiers: If a member re-qualifies for a tier they will re-qualify for that tier's reward (unless the lifetime restriction or time frame restriction thresholds have been set).
⚠️ Tier entry rewards apply going forward from when you set them up. Existing members don't automatically receive rewards retroactively for tiers they already hold. Reach out to support if you need help with a bulk adjustment.
See where members find their tier entry rewards
Once issued, tier entry rewards are visible to members in a few places:
Loyalty landing page: The tier table shows the reward tied to each tier, and the My perks section shows the reward for the member's current tier.
Floating widget: The tier table and My perks sections mirror the landing page experience.
Email: Welcome and tier upgrade emails include the reward as part of the tier's benefits.
If these surfaces have not been enabled prior to setting up tier entry rewards, you will need to enable and set them up. To do so:
Go to Loyalty > On-Site Displays.
Select the loyalty widget or page of your choice to enable it for your customers. The example below shows an unstyled version of tier entry rewards being shown on the loyalty landing page.
Restriction differences between coupon expiry types
Which restrictions you can apply depends on the coupon type you choose for the tier entry reward. The restrictions available for each coupon type are listed below.
Coupon type | Expiry | Minimum purchase | Collection restriction | Limit the number of times this can be earned |
Percentage discount | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Fixed value | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Free shipping | Yes | Yes | Not available | Yes |
Free product | Yes | No | Not available | Yes |
FAQs
Can I add more than one reward to the same tier?
No. Each tier supports a single tier entry reward: points, store credit, or a coupon (a percentage off, a fixed dollar amount off, a free product, or free shipping).
Do members get tier entry rewards if I add tiers to my tier entry rule after launch?
Yes. If you set up tier entry rewards after your tier program has been activated, all members going forward will receive their relevant tier entry reward. Retroactivity does not apply to the tier entry rule.
Can I offer a different reward type for each tier?
No. While you cannot change the reward type per tier, you can choose a different value of that reward type for each tier, for example Bronze = 20 points, Silver = 50 points, Gold = 100 points. You can also choose to multiply a tier reward for each individual tier entry.
Can I send events to Klaviyo?
Yes, you can send events to Klaviyo that relate to tier entry rewards. These events can be used to send "Tier Upgrade" emails and either Direct Reward or Points earned emails.
