Set up tier-based discounts in your loyalty program

Reward shoppers automatically based on their loyalty tier, using a discount configured directly in Shopify.

Tier-Based Discounts let you automatically apply a percentage discount to eligible cart items based on a shopper's loyalty tier. You configure the discount in Shopify's Discounts section, and it applies at checkout with no coupon code.

💡 You will need to create a separate discount for each loyalty tier you want to reward.


Before you start

  • You need an active Okendo Loyalty program with Earn Tiers or Membership Tiers.

  • Point-of-sale support requires Shopify POS Pro.


Create a tier-based discount

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Discounts and click Create discount.

  2. Under the Okendo section, select Loyalty Discount.

  3. Select the loyalty tier the discount applies to (for example, Elite).

  4. Set the discount percentage (for example, 10%).

  5. Optionally edit the label shown on the checkout line item.

  6. Set the active dates and any minimum requirements (minimum purchase amount or minimum quantity of items).


Control which products qualify

  • Use inclusions or exclusions to list the products and collections the discount applies to.

  • Enable exclude items on sale to skip discounted items automatically. Okendo checks the compare-at price, and if it is higher than the current price the item does not receive the discount.

⚠️ Shopify limits product and variant selection to 100 SKUs per discount (variants included). To discount more, add the target variants to a variant-level collection (up to 250 variants) and set eligibility against the collection. You can select up to 100 collections.


Point of sale and combinations

  • Toggle point of sale on to show the discount in Shopify POS. This requires Shopify POS Pro.

  • Choose whether the discount combines with other order, product, or shipping discounts.


How it applies

Once saved, the discount applies automatically at checkout for any shopper in the selected tier. There is no code for the shopper to enter.


Representing the discount as a tier perk in Okendo

Although the discount is configured in Shopify, you'll need to surface it as a visible perk on each tier in Okendo to drive program awareness.

  1. In your Okendo admin, navigate to Loyalty > Tiers.

  2. Select a tier and add a Custom Perk.

  3. Label the perk to reflect the discount (e.g. "5% off every order" for Bronze).

  4. Save. The perk will appear on your loyalty landing page and widgets.


FAQs

Which products are eligible for the discount?

Eligibility is determined by the rules you configure in Shopify when setting up the Loyalty Discount. You can include specific products or collections (so the discount only applies to those items), exclude specific products or collections (so the discount applies to everything except those items), or enable the sale item exclusion flag to prevent the discount applying to products already on sale. These options can be combined.

Can I combine this discount with other Shopify discounts?

Discount combinations are subject to Shopify's standard combination rules. See Combining discounts in Okendo Loyalty for details.

Does the discount apply to all loyalty tiers?

You set the discount percentage per tier when configuring the discount in Shopify. Tiers with no percentage set will not receive a discount.

Is there any configuration required in the Okendo admin?

Yes, you can represent the discount as a custom perk on each tier in Okendo.

What happens if a shopper is not logged in?

The discount only applies to logged-in members whose loyalty tier can be identified. Guests will not receive the tier-based discount.

Does this discount apply to Shopify POS transactions?

If you're on Shopify POS Pro, tier-based discounts apply to POS transactions by default. If you'd prefer to keep your in-store and online pricing separate, uncheck the Apply to POS transactions option when configuring the Loyalty Discount in Shopify.
